GQEBERHA – A breakthrough in the investigation into the attempted murder of a 35-year-old woman in Missionvale, Algoa Park, has resulted in two suspects being linked to the shooting.
On 27 April 2026 at approximately 20:00, the victim left her home walking to a nearby shop. While walking in the street, she noticed two males standing nearby. As she passed them, they allegedly called her by name. When she turned around, one of the suspects allegedly shot her twice in the chest. The victim fell to the ground and called for help. It is further alleged that one of the suspects approached her and shot her in the head before both suspects fled the scene. She was rushed to hospital for medical treatment and survived the attack.
At the time of the incident, the motive for the shooting was unknown and the suspects had not been identified.
During the investigation, a detective attached to the Nelson Mandela Bay District Intervention Task Team identified Ahlumile Stofile (21) and Lufumowethu Nyodi (20) as suspects allegedly involved in the attempted murder. The two suspects had already been arrested during July 2026 in connection with the murder of local councillor Sicelo Mleve, who was shot and killed in June 2026. Further investigation established that the same suspects were allegedly also involved in the April 2026 attempted murder of the 35-year-old woman in Missionvale.
On 9 September 2026, the two suspects were arrested at the New Brighton Magistrates’ Court, where they were appearing in connection with the murder of the councillor. They subsequently appeared before the New Brighton Magistrates’ Court on the attempted murder charges. The matter was remanded to 16 September 2026 for a formal bail application.
The investigation into the attempted murder remains ongoing.
