This was taken at a rest stop on I-35 in southern Oklahoma earlier in the Fall. They are blades for the giant windmill power generators that have popped up all over that area. I see these sometimes on trains passing through Austin, but had not seen them on trucks. I guess this is the final leg of the journey.

[https://www.flickr.com/photos/44506883@N04] Indeed, somewhere around 15 – 17 meters, I think, maybe even a bit more. And the tower they attach to sits at least double that high (plenty of ground clearance).
Thanks Julie, this is the first time I’ve seen on on trucks, although I have seen train cars with them pass through Austin (my office sits near the main north-south tracks). This area of Oklahoma has hundreds of these things. It does stay rather windy up there.

Amazing shot Steve. We were stuck driving behind 2 such long lorries once for 10 miles up narrow country lanes (most of the windfarms in Ireland are on top of remote peat bogs). It seemed to take forever before they finally turned off.
