Suburbs Most ‘Hit’ With Electricity Disconnections

As the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality struggles to collect money owed by residents on services, we track the suburbs targeted the most in these blitzes.

Please remember that these blitzes may appear to be skewed towards the older ‘white’ suburbs for a number of reasons.

These reasons include:

1. A higher prevalence of credit or post paid meters in the older ‘privileged’ areas
2. A higher prevalence of pre-paid electricity meters in the newer and former ‘township’ areas
3. A high number of illegal connections are not reported/recorded.

So far this year there have been 13 electricity disconnection blitzes and there are two suburbs that have ‘enjoyed’ 8 blitzes in total.

1. Central (8 blitzes)
2. North End (8 blitzes)
3. Korsten (7 blitzes)
4. Lorraine (7 blitzes)
5. Summerstrand (7 blitzes)
