The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is appealing to residents and communities in the Stanford Road area to assist the Municipality in addressing an ongoing sewer blockage that has resulted in one lane of Stanford Road being completely flooded with sewage.
Municipal Water and Wastewater (WWC) maintenance teams have made repeated attempts to access the affected area and resolve the blockage. However, threats and incidents of robbery targeting municipal employees have made it increasingly difficult for teams to safely carry out the necessary work.
As recently as yesterday, Sunday, 11 October 2026, the NMBM WWC maintenance team attended to the area in an effort to unblock the sewer, but was forced to abandon the site due to safety concerns.
The Municipality understands the serious health and environmental risks posed by the sewage overflow and is committed to resolving the matter. However, the safety of municipal employees must also be protected.
The NMBM therefore makes a heartfelt plea to the community to work with the Municipality and allow maintenance teams to safely access the area and carry out the required repairs.
Community cooperation is essential to resolving this unhealthy situation and restoring the affected road and surrounding environment.
The Municipality appeals to residents to help protect the teams working to keep communities safe, healthy and functional.
