GQEBERHA – SAPS Kariega is warning motorists, particularly parents and caregivers transporting children to school, to remain vigilant following a number of Theft Out of Motor Vehicle incidents reported in the Kariega policing precinct during the morning school drop-off period.
The incidents occur when motorists leave their vehicles unattended, even for a short period, creating an opportunity for criminals to target valuables left inside the vehicles.
Parents and caregivers are urged to ensure that no valuable items, including handbags, laptops, cellular phones, wallets and other electronic devices, are left visible inside their vehicles.
Motorists are reminded to properly lock their vehicles before walking away and to check that the vehicle is securely locked before leaving the area.
The community is further advised to remain alert to suspicious persons or vehicles in the vicinity of schools and to report any suspicious activity to the police immediately. Motorists should also avoid leaving their vehicles unattended with the engine running or the keys inside the vehicle.
SAPS Kariega is increasing police visibility and monitoring around schools during peak drop-off periods. Motorists and the community are urged to remain vigilant and take the necessary precautions to prevent becoming victims of crime.
