As a male I do not have the added pressure placed upon me of having to be a fashion icon that never wears the same clothes again, ever.
All I need to do is pull on my jeans (from yesterday) over a clean pair of underpants and socks, squish into my safety boots and choose a shirt based on indoor or outdoor work for the day. A little ‘designer stubble’ also does not go amiss should I feel that a shave is not in order.
As a woman, things are very different:
- Make up and hair must be spot on
- Clothes must be feminine and clean
- God help me if I wear the same outfit TWICE
- I am judged as wasting money on new outfits
- I am judged if I wear the same outfit twice
- If I am a politician then appearances are key.
Here are some images of Nelson Mandela Bay Executive Mayor, Babalwa Lobishe in her different outfits these past couple of weeks.

Just one so far – why does Babalwa wear that ANC scarf so much? I am sure that if councilors from other parties wore party regalia whilst on Municipal Business they would be heckled to bits. Maybe it is time to issue our Councilors with NMBM branded scarves, hoodies, buffs, hats etc.
