GQEBERHA – A 27-year-old man is expected to appear in the New Brighton Magistrate’s Court today, Monday, 12 October 2026, following his arrest for the alleged possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
At approximately 12:30 on Friday, 9 October 2026, members of the SAPS New Brighton Crime Prevention Unit were conducting patrols at the corner of Avenue A and Kwaza Street in New Brighton. They approached two men in the area. One of the men, who was wearing a striped shirt, allegedly walked quickly into a fast-food container on Avenue A.
Members followed him inside and found him allegedly attempting to conceal a firearm in dough. He was arrested and Police seized a black-and-silver pistol described as a 7.65/9mm firearm, one magazine and five live rounds of ammunition.
The suspect will appear in court on Monday, 12 October 2026. The case remains under investigation.
