With reference to the recent announcement by NMB Executive Mayor, Babalwa Lobishe that the responsibility for running of the stadium has been taken away from the MBDA.
Lobishe used the word REVIEW and not TERMINATION in her initial announcement.
MBDA and SARU used the word TERMINATION and not REVIEW – so already we had questions.
Anyway the MBDA resorted to the courts to sort this out and obtained a 90 day extension to their month to month contract with their only shareholder – the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality.
During the press conference on 4 July Mayor Lobishe made reference to certain employees in the stadium not getting employment contracts as one of the reasons for her taking the stadium away from the MBDA.
And here we start getting into LOGIC:
- As a business one cannot give a contract to an employee when you are on a month-to-month contract with your only shareholder.
- As the major shareholder, the logical and, dare I say, correct thing to do would be to inform and assure the current employees, stakeholders and contractors of their continued employment BEFORE dropping the bombshell and rushing to the press.
- The current employees at the stadium represent many years of learning and experience and if this move makes them lose their jobs then the stadium will never fulfill it’s potential.
Let’s admit – if you piss your employees off they will seek another job, not give 120%, moan and groan to anyone who will listen and even run and tell tales to any media instance that will listen!
