I monitor the dam levels for Cape Town and Nelson Mandela Bay on a daily basis.
If you are familiar with this proverb – “For want of a nail, the shoe was lost; for want of a shoe, the horse was lost; and for why the horse was lost, the rider was lost,” which warns that ignoring small details leads to a massive disaster – then you will know where I am going with this.
Cape Town reports dam levels nearly every single day and when they cannot report them they actually state why they cannot.
Nelson Mandela Bay used to report faithfully a day or two before each bout of expected rain or whenever I jogged their memory.
As it is Cape Town’s last report was today – 28 July 2026.
Whilst Nelson Mandela Bay last reported Dam Levels on 24 June 2026 – more than a month ago.
Rest assured we are still paying for being in a ‘man made’ shortage of water – the municipality is once again losing more than 50% of the water from the dams BEFORE the water hits our taps.
The same can be said of the state of our streetlights, potholes, electricity – the very first time our monkeypality ignored a broken streetlight, a pothole or essential maintenance on our electricity infrastructure was the ‘nail’ that led to our current disaster.
