With reference to the 11.2% Increase in Municipal Services Charges – you can thank the current coalition for the increase.
The motion to increase these charges was approved by 60 votes against 46.
Like buying a car – would you pay 11.2% more for a piece of scrap or a functioning (not even luxury) vehicle?
Then why must we pay for the council’s inability to keep our electricity just functioning?
And why must we pay for council’s inability to stem the 60% of water that THEY lose every day?
Talk about crisis management – today was the last day the the Municipality could submit their increases to NERSA (and the debate continued after 5:00 pm).
Failure to do so could have resulted in the municipality being prevented from buying electricity as from 1 July 2026.
Expect more electricity theft and water losses.
