The Minister of Sport, Arts, and Culture, Gayton McKenzie will on Saturday, 22 March 2025 officially hand over the newly renovated Gelvandale Swimming Pool in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape.
The Department of Sport, Arts, and Culture is proud to celebrate the successful completion of the Gelvandale Swimming Pool renovation, a significant investment in community sports infrastructure made possible through funding from the Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG).
This project reflects the Department’s unwavering commitment to providing state-of-the-art sports facilities in historically under-resourced communities, creating
opportunities for youth development, active lifestyles, and social cohesion. Through the MIG programme, the Department continues to implement critical infrastructure projects nationwide, with a strong focus on developing multipurpose sports facilities that promote inclusive participation in sports and recreational activities at the community level.
“Every community deserves safe, world-class facilities where young people can develop their talents, stay active, and dream big. This is more than a swimming pool – it’s an investment in the future of our youth and a testament to our commitment to inclusive sports development,” said Minister Gayton McKenzie.
