In the widely televised sit-down between President Cyril Ramaphosa and President Donald Trump last night, the South Africa delegation were ‘ambushed’ with a video mashup mainly featuring ‘enemy of my enemy’ politician, Julius Malema.
As an aside, I have also seen Julius recorded as Julian in some of the larger American publications…
All we could hear in the background was a small sampling of the many times that Julius Malema has publicly sung; “Kill the Boer, Kill the Farmer” over and over again.
Can you imagine the furore if President Ramaphosa had admitted that he too was a farmer and felt a tad nervous whenever he heard that song.
On his Ntabanyoni farm in Badplaas, Mpumalanga, Ramaphosa farms a rare breed of cattle known as Ankole. He first imported the breed from Uganda and is regarded as the biggest Ankole farmer in the country.
And the South African delegation could have played the video below as evidence:
Julius gets a lot of air time every time he trots out this particular ‘song’.
What the chattering classes forget is that farmers are a diverse lot – ranging from your one goat, 10 spinach patch goggo in the rural areas to the President of South Africa.
President Ramaphosa is also a farmer and maybe Julius Malema is also including the South African President in his singing of this song.
