Statement on behalf of Mr Unati Peter, Acting CEO of the Mandela Bay Development Agency:
The Mandela Bay Development Agency is aware of concerns expressed by community members regarding the Moore Dyke Sports Precinct. We acknowledge the frustration that the delays have caused, and we want to provide clarity on the status of the project and the steps being taken to complete the project. The project still forms part of the Agency’s 2025/2026 Business Plan.
The construction tender for the completion of the site was issued publicly in October 2025, calling for a principal contractor to finish the project. That process is currently in the objection period.
At present, approximately 80% of the works are complete. The remaining 20% is anticipated to take the project to practical completion.
Vandalism is an unfortunate and ongoing threat. 24-hour security is in place to protect the site from further damage. Maintenance, including cleansing and neatening of the fields and surrounding environment, is scheduled this month as part of our rotation of resources.
The Agency works closely with the ward councillor’s office and communicates every step to ensure that community concerns are heard and addressed. Our project manager was on site earlier this week with the Councillor, Graham Gelderblom, to review activities towards completion.
We remain confident in the progress being made and in the value this project will bring to the community once finished. The agency’s mandate is development that improves everyday lives, and we reaffirm our commitment to the completion of this project.
