Whilst at the MBDA dinner honouring former Executive Mayor, Nceba Faku I had a number of thought provoking conversations with activists and former politicians at the coal face.
As a jumping off point I heartily encourage everyone to venture outside of their comfort zone to engage with people from across the political spectrum – you may learn something.
My learnings were simple:
- We all recognise that our city and country lacks decisive leadership
- We all acknowledge that our political structures (and parties) are a mess refusing to put South Africa first
But, my biggest learning was that whilst we all seek a leader, a messiah, a true South African we do not know just how we will recognise that person/collective.
Hence, my questions (that remain unanswered):
- How will you recognise that one leader who says something that makes you so jealous that you didn’t see that one simple short concept that becomes a rallying cry to drive us on to fully realising our potential as a world leading country?
- How will you recognise that tipping point and what will it look/feel/sound like?
