Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s Executive Mayor, Councillor Babalwa Lobishe in collaboration with SAPS, addressed the Uitenhage and District Taxi Association (UDTA) in KwaNobuhle today following a taxi strike over service delivery concerns.
The strike was prompted by issues such as the condition of the Matanzima Bridge, which affects the association’s routes.
“This strike took place just as contractors were set to begin rehabilitating disaster-affected areas. Another meeting with the taxi association will be held, where contractors will present their contracts as proof that work will commence tomorrow,” said Mayor Lobishe.
Mayor Lobishe, SAPS, and the Taxi Association reached an consensus to call off the strike and continue discussions to achieve a resolution that serves the interests of all stakeholders.
