ACDP Councillor Lance Grootboom said last night; “We spend R7.8-billion buying power from Eskom, but we only recover R6.9-billion. You are draining the hard-earned money of honest, paying citizens to cross-subsidise lawlessness! It is pure administrative failure.”
He put it politely without pointing fingers at our present Lords (Ladies) and Masters.
For once in your life I dare you to meaningfully engage with your staff – specifically those staff members in low paying menial jobs that stay in what we used to call the ‘townships’!
Gently coach them around to the touchy subject of electricity and paying for services.
Listen carefully to what they say. In my experience the words used are; “When we used to pay for electricity” and not; “We bypass our meters because we cannot afford!”

- 64,588 ATTP Domestic Prepaid & Credit (T01)Indigent customers, single phase (230V 80A)

- 19,871 Non ATTP Domestic Credit (Scale 31 & 36)Single & three phase credit meters
Now consider that each of those households contains at least 2 persons of voting age.
Now remember how Zuma engineered State Capture – simply by making as many people as possible complicit in his crime.
The crime in relation to electricity in South Africa is the sheer number of people who are not paying and who remain complicit with their masters in government who refuse to act against these non-payers. In the absence of consequences these non-payers are ‘forced’ to vote for our current crop of political thieves.
The inference from our current political thieves is that if another political party gets into power then all those currently not paying for electricity will have to pay.
If you were in the same situation would you vote for a better/different party that will make you pay for something you have been stealing for years?
