Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium: As Executive Mayor, I stand firm in my conviction that the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is not only honouring the legacy of our democratic struggle but actively driving real, visible change. We will not be derailed by cynicism, misinformation or attempts to sow division. Our priorities are clear, economic growth, job creation, service delivery and protecting the dignity of every resident.
Recent Human Rights Day activities and economic initiatives were not symbolic. They are proof that this administration is action-oriented and results-driven. Our programmes create opportunities for entrepreneurs and artists, and foster unity across communities.
We do not shy away from the realities of our nation’s past, nor do we allow it to paralyse us. Education and open dialogue remain at the core of our approach, empowering every resident to be part of the solution. To our partners, your continued collaboration is essential as we scale these successes.
I am unapologetic in celebrating our city’s leadership in the regional economy. Hosting the Africa Coastal Marine and Maritime Tourism Trade Show is just one example of how we attract investment and unlock billions in value for our citizens and the province. Our Oceans Economy already makes up 5.2% of provincial GDP. These are not just statistics, they are livelihoods secured.
Let there be no doubt, our Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and budget strategies are not tick-box exercises. Every project and every rand spent is evaluated for impact. We will not tolerate hollow compliance or bureaucratic inertia. Our mission is transformation that touches every ward, with a clear focus on the most vulnerable.
Entering an election year, I challenge every resident to participate in the voter registration weekend of 20 and 21 June. This is not merely a democratic ritual, but a demonstration of your voice and your power. Let us not be distracted by noise, misinformation and theatrics. Your vote shapes your community’s future.
Transparency and accountability are non-negotiable. While we welcome critical oversight from Parliament and the public, we will not be intimidated by baseless speculation or the spread of falsehoods. We are strengthening our administrative systems to ensure faster, more effective communication. Our focus remains on serving the people, not on responding to every rumour or manufactured controversy.
The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality will not retreat from its vision of inclusive growth, real accountability and lasting transformation. I call upon every resident and stakeholder to join me, not as critics on the sidelines, but as active partners in building a city where progress is tangible and hope is justified.
