South Africa’s leading sailing class – the DF95 Radio Controlled Yachts – is well represented in Gqeberha.
This past weekend saw 27 sailors compete in the DF95 EC Regional Regatta – 9 from the local PERBC club and 18 from the rest of SA.
The DF95 Eastern Cape Regionals 2026 Regatta, presented by PERBC and hosted at the Powerboat Club on the North End Lake in Gqeberha was sailed from 23 to 25 January 2026.
27 boats took part – 9 from PERBC and 18 from other parts of South Africa.
The fleet was split into two and each sailor sailed 25 races – 50 in total for the weekend.
Conditions varied from South West to South to East and from 4 to 12 knots of wind. Sunny, no cloud cover and hot.
On Sunday the fleet was split again into Gold and Silver.
Gold and Silver sailed 5 races each and the final results are:
Gold:

- Des Fairbank (MRYC)
- Bruce Schnel (DRBC)
Silver:
- Justin Dent (PERBC)
- Denny Mofatt (DRBC)
- Norrie Taylor (DRBC)
DF95 sailing returns to Gqeberha from 24 to 26 April when the PERC hosts the South African National Championships. Organisers are expecting a bumper turnout for this event as it is before the Global Championships when the Cape Radio Yacht Club in conjunction with Theewater Sports Club will host the 2026 DF95 Global Championships on Theewaterskloof Dam from Friday 16 October to Friday 23 October 2026.
