Route 67 is an urban arts and heritage walking trail located in the city of Gqeberha, South Africa. The route was created in 2011 to celebrate Nelson Mandela’s 67 years of public life and his dedication to the fight for freedom in South Africa. The project was initiated by the Mandela Bay Development Agency (MBDA) and features 67 public artworks created by local artists from the Eastern Cape province.
The trail begins at the historic Campanile in Strand Street, a bell tower built in memory of the 1820 British Settlers. From there, it leads through the city center, including Vuyisile Mini Square, and up a staircase at St. Mary’s Terrace. The journey culminates at the Donkin Reserve, a significant landmark that features a large South African flag and a stone pyramid built by the city’s founder, Sir Rufane Donkin.
