With reference to the rumoured new home for the Red Location Museum in the CBD…
I have never before heard anything so incredibly thoughtless and disparaging to the local community of Red Location.
It is almost as if the authorities are saying to the local population; “Stay there and rot, we are tired of your demands and advise you to bid you and your hopes and dreams farewell. By the way, those things about a caring society and a better life for all were all just slogans to get your vote – nothing else!”
Local activists such as Lungelo Ngabaza, Mike Pantsi, the late Annette Du Plessis and I advocated for many years for the rehabilitation of the Red Location Museum – only to watch it slowly sink away to vandals and miscreants.
During COVID, Lungelo started the ‘No Tourism Without Art’ sessions which take place outside the precinct every Saturday.
