This morning, the Member of the Mayoral Committee for Budget and Treasury, Councillor Khanya Ngqisha, paid a heartfelt visit to the Ekuphumleni Old Age Home in Zwide. In a powerful gesture of support, he announced that the Home’s longstanding debt of R3.5 million has officially been written off.
Ekuphumleni Old Age Home, a non-profit organisation, provides care for 70 elderly and frail residents from across the metro. Recognising the institution’s critical role and unwavering dedication to community service, the Council has resolved to clear its debt burden, allowing it to continue its mission without financial strain.
An emotional Mr Monga Peter, Director of Ekuphumleni, shared his gratitude saying, “Today is such an emotional day for me. To realise that this debt has been written off, and that we can start afresh… I am overwhelmed and relieved. The municipality has given us a fresh start, and they see the value that Ekuphumleni adds to this community. I cannot say thank you enough.”
