It serves as the spiritual home for the Greek Orthodox faithful in Nelson Mandela Bay and is central to the broader Hellenic Community of Gqeberha. Beyond its primary role as a place of worship, the church is a vibrant hub for the preservation and celebration of Greek culture, traditions, and language. It hosts regular divine liturgies, religious ceremonies, and community events, fostering a strong sense of identity and fellowship among its members. The architectural beauty of the church, characteristic of Orthodox design, is also a notable feature in the Parsons Hill area.<\/p>\n<p>The first Greek Orthodox service in Port Elizabeth was held at St Peter&#8217;s Church in South End on 2 July 1905, with about 70 Greeks attending the service. As from 1956, after the purchase of the Parsons Hill site, a concerted effort was made to raise funds to design and build the church, school and presbytery complex.
