Paul Hurley, NSRI St Francis Bay station commander, said: At 11h32, Tuesday, 10 March, NSRI NSRI St Francis Bay duty crew were activated following a request for medical assistance from a local Chokka fishing boat reporting a crewman onboard suffering a medical condition.
Our NSRI St Francis Bay duty crew and Rapid EMS (REMS) ambulance services responded to our NSRI St Francis Bay station 21 rescue base where our rescue craft Spirit of St Francis III was launched, accompanied by a Rapid EMS rescue paramedic.
We rendezvoused with the vessel offshore of the Port of St Francis where the patient, a local adult male, was transferred onboard our rescue craft and in the care of the paramedic he was brought to our rescue base and transported to hospital by Rapid EMS ambulance in a serious but stable condition.
The operation completed at 12h35.
The patient is recovering in hospital.
Earlier, on Friday, 6 March, NSRI St Francis Bay duty crew were activated at 05h45 following a request for medical assistance from a local Chokka fishing boat reporting a crewman onboard injured.
Our NSRI St Francis Bay duty crew and Rapid EMS (REMS) ambulance services responded to our NSRI St Francis Bay station 21 rescue base where our rescue craft Spirit of St Francis III was launched, accompanied by a Rapid EMS rescue paramedic.

Later, on Friday, 6 March, at 20h59, NSRI St Francis Bay duty crew were activated following a request for medical assistance from a local Chokka fishing boat reporting a crewman onboard injured.
Our NSRI St Francis Bay duty crew and Gardmed ambulance services responded to our NSRI St Francis Bay station 21 rescue base where our rescue craft Spirit of St Francis III was launched, accompanied by 2 Gardmed EMS rescue paramedics.
We rendezvoused with the vessel offshore of the Port of St Francis where the patient, a local 39 year old male, was transferred onboard our rescue craft and in the care of the paramedics he was brought to our rescue base and transported to hospital by Gardmed ambulance in a stable condition.
The patient is recovering from his injuries.
The operation completed at 21h58.
NSRI EOC (Emergency Operations Centre), NSRI St Francis Bay duty controllers, TNPA (Transnet National Ports Authority) Port of St Francis Port Control, Telkom Maritime Radio Services, Port Health, Rapid EMS (REMS) ambulance services control, Relay ambulance services control and Gardmed ambulance services control, assisted MRCC (Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre) in the logistics and coordination of these medical evacuation operations.
