Earlier this morning I was chatting on WhatsApp to a client that has booked an Off Grid Solar installation on his family homestead in a remote part of the Eastern Cape.
Pretty standard you would say but not really when I tell you:
We developed the quotation based on photographs of the property and used our Solar Estimator that utilises Google Maps.
He is in Russia, his parents in Johannesburg and Gqeberha and we have a team on it’s way to inspect his homestead to-morrow.
Problem one was him telling me that he couldn’t drop a pin to assist us to find his property. “As Google will send you on the wrong road,” he said.
So, after determining that his parents were unable to travel to the Homestead he opened Google Maps on his phone, screencast his screen and drew on it showing us which road NOT to take and which road to take.
Imagine what would have happened in the days pre-internet: Expensive phone calls, postage delays, paper maps, crappy roads and heavily increased costs.
But today, we solved what would have taken weeks to set up in a matter of 20 minutes.
Sometimes I am grateful for technology.
