Last week on Friday afternoon I found a business that could supply me with 5l bottles of White Vinegar.
I use White Vinegar, Salt and Dishwashing Liquid as an eco friendly weed killer.
An employee at the business tried to get hold of his boss to complete the sale – no answer… twice.
Said employee said that I could pay cash but he couldn’t give me a receipt as the boss handles that.
I paid cash and left.
On Monday I wondered if the cash had hit the businesses’ till so asked a mate who is related to the business owner to discreetly check – after all I would like a client to do the same for me if an employee receives cash and doesn’t issue a receipt.
TODAY – I get an e-mail from said business saying that I now owe them R20.00.
No thank you for my honesty and concern, no preamble, just straight to the “You owe me R20.00?
What the Farg?
I replied thus:
Please place yourself in my shoes.
- Your employee couldn’t get hold of you on the phone – twice
- I paid cash and didn’t get a receipt (so at that stage you had no idea who purchased)
- I expressed a small concern to [my mate] that the cash may not have made it into your till.
- You reply saying that I owe you R20.00
NOT COOL.
IF I did not care about you or you receiving the cash you would not have known who still ‘owed’ you R20.00
Your R20.00 will be waiting for you at reception – 13 Mangold Street, Newton Park.
