It is a well documented fact that Superyacht Owners are constantly seeking unique and affordable berths for their vessels.
Many seek to winterise and maintain their vessels in secure facilities.
Over the years the Cape Town Maritime industry has grown in leaps and bounds and is now at the point where they can offer all the diverse industries to maintain these high tech vessels.
Similar facilities worldwide offer berthing at eye watering prices along with grabbing a share of a captive market needing essential services such as fuel, provisions, marine engineering, logistics, hospitality, marine contractors temporary staff, entertainment etc. And, the cherry on the top is that this foreign spending remains largely within the local economy.
Imagine the boost that our City and the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium will get from the citing of such a facility in uniquely protected waters?
No, we will not overland these vessels to the lake but rather dig a channel through to the sea which, in the process, will open up an area in steady decline to some very desirable waterfront real estate all along it’s path.
Now, all we need to find is a couple of Billion rand to make it happen!
