The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is aware of the disturbing incident that occurred on Sunday, 30 March 2025, at the corner of Webber and Gladstone Streets in South End. The matter is currently under investigation.
The officers present are Metro Traffic Officers who were deployed in the area as part of traffic management duties for the Ironman African Championship.
However, their specific actions at the time are under review. In line with standard procedure, we are unable to release their names at this stage.
We acknowledge the concerns regarding the officers’ response. The investigation will establish why they did not intervene or call for backup, and appropriate action will follow based on the findings.
The municipality takes this matter very seriously. Should the investigation reveal negligence or failure to act in accordance with their duties, disciplinary steps may be taken.
