The Eastern Cape Midlands College, in collaboration with various partners like the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, MBDA, Lumotec, SETA, and others, hosted an onboarding event in Kariega today.
The event’s primary goal was to officially welcome 232 students as they start their 18-month in-service training, which will give them valuable work experience.
The Deputy Principal, Mr. Vukile Hawana, encouraged the students to fully embrace this opportunity, emphasizing that they should stay committed, disciplined, and make the most of this chance to transition from being students to employees. He reminded them that this experience could lead to unforeseen opportunities if they put in their best effort.
In her keynote speech, Executive Mayor Cllr Babalwa Lobishe highlighted the significance of vocational education in boosting both local and national economic growth. She pointed out that practical skills are increasingly vital for young people and workers looking to compete in the job market.
The event was part of broader efforts to empower youth, promote skills development, and support regional growth.
