In the bad old days (‘good old days’ if you are reading this DJT!) of apartheid the government of the day exercised their draconian powers over the media with strict censorship and ownership of various media instances favourable to the National Party.
That, along, with separate development, job reservation (a form of BEE), dompasses, curfew and general apartheid measures was what finally encouraged the world to raise sanctions upon South Africa in a well meaning move to end apartheid by crippling the South African government financially.
It would appear that the USA’s much vaunted First Amendment needs some amending as we witness an assault on free speech by the current Federal Government of America.
Two late night comedy hosts have received their marching orders: Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert for remarks disparaging the right leaning groups in the USA.
Just like when there is smoke there is fire I can safely say that we have only seen the tip of the iceberg here as reports come in from business where employees, after being scrutinised for resistance and utterances against right leaning persons and groups, are found wanting and forced out.
Would it be PC to say that the Americans on the Left have now assumed the mantle of persons of colour during the apartheid years?
South Africa stood up against Israel and accused them of genocide (only to be proven correct last week*) so maybe the time has now come to stand up and point out to DJT and cronies that we will be calling for sanctions against their country of birth?
* At the UN General Assembly this month, Britain, France, Canada and Australia all said they would recognise a Palestinian state.
