Perusing Leader of the Democratic Alliance, John Steenhuisens speech, at the party’s provincial congress in Bloemfontein it struuck me that maybe John needs to change tack and words:
In his speech John said:
- People want water in their taps.
- They want roads that don’t destroy their vehicles.
- They want clinics and libraries that are open, staffed, and functional.
- And they want municipalities that work.
From the above words one gets the sense that people want these things for free!
So I suggest the John (or his speechwriter/s) rather use these words:
- People want the water in their taps that they pay for.
- They want the money that they pay for roads to be used on roads that don’t destroy their vehicles and NOT on parties.
- They want clinics and libraries that are open, staffed, and functional and use their taxes to accomplish this.
- And they want municipalities that use their taxes WISELY and work PROPERLY.
After all didn’t the politicians make a sacre3d covenant with citizens to NOT act in a fraudulent manner, to act with citizens first in mind, to fill potholes, fix sewage, solve loadshedding, reduce prices…
OR
Is that a standard hymnal from which all criminals sing whilst ravaging the oppressed with abandon?
