The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality would like to inform residents and businesses that work to restore electricity on the Chelsea–Arlington–Walmer–Summerstrand line is progressing as planned.
This follows recent infrastructure damage to the electricity transmission line, which resulted in power supply disruptions in the affected areas. The Municipality immediately activated its technical teams to implement urgent repair and restoration measures.
The crane truck arrived on site this morning. As a result, three monopoles have been erected so far, with all rings successfully installed. Conductor installations are currently progressing through the second pole. Looking at the progress to date, all indicators show that the work may be completed ahead of the ten-day deadline.
As mandated by the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Executive Mayor, Councillor Babalwa Lobishe, the Member of the Mayoral Committee for Electricity and Energy, Councillor Ziyanda Mnqokoyi, continues to closely monitor progress to ensure that strict project management timelines are adhered to. Simultaneously, teams on site are conducting inspections on other pylons along the line to ensure that the infrastructure does not experience similar failures in future.
Executive Mayor, Councillor Babalwa Lobishe, has thanked residents and businesses for their patience during this time. “We understand the inconvenience that this has caused. This is why we have taken a forward-looking approach by also assessing the line to identify and mitigate any potential risk areas,” said the Executive Mayor.
