The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has closed Kings Beach for the second time in as many months due to a sewage spill.
Teams from Infrastructure and Engineering, Sanitation are on site to detect the origin of the spill.

31 July 2025 UPDATE: KINGS BEACH SEWER SPILLAGE
The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality wishes to provide an update regarding the ongoing sewerage spill affecting Kings Beach and surrounding areas.
Following recent heavy rainfall over the weekend, a new spill occurred at the Kings Beach parking area. This was despite ongoing flow control measures via by-pass pumping in the harbour. The spill has since ceased as of 31 July 2025. The affected area is currently undergoing cleaning and treatment (dosing) to reduce E. coli levels and eliminate unpleasant odours.
Urgent work will be done on rectification. A newly appointed contractor has confirmed that the necessary pipes are readily available, and work is expected to be completed within 2–3 weeks, provided no additional collapses occur during excavation.
The Municipality continues to monitor the situation closely and is committed to restoring full functionality to the sewer system while ensuring public health and safety. Water quality testing is ongoing to determine when the beach will be safe for public use.
