The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality urges all residents and motorists to avoid using the R367 Ben Schoeman Bridge until further notice due to structural damage identified on the bridge.
For the safety of all road users, residents are strongly advised to make use of alternative routes while assessments and necessary interventions are being undertaken.
ALTERNATIVE ROUTES:
- Use the R75 route between Kariega and Despatch/Gqeberha
- Motorists travelling from Despatch may use Algoa Road (M10/R368) as an alternative route
- Access through Old Grahamstown Road may also be utilised where possible
Traffic officials will continue to monitor the area and assist with traffic flow where necessary.
The Municipality understands the inconvenience this may cause, however, the safety and wellbeing of residents remain our top priority.
Motorists are requested to exercise caution, adhere to all road signage and barriers in the area, and cooperate with officials on site.
