So this is a bit of a Passive Aggressive apology to the Relay Jeans store in Greenacres, Newton Park.
I am a typical old school male – I hate shopping for things like clothes, get anxiety in queues and procrastinate for a long time before making a buying decision.
After popping in to the Relay Jeans store a few times – my chance came to rush in and purchase what I needed (as oppose to what I wanted) on Saturday 6 December.
Of course it is the lead up to the silly season and the number of people in queues is insane – along with the queue jumpers, persons with no ability to read personal space, loud nasal sniffers, shopping cart bumpers, you get my drift.
So, there I stood in the Relay Jeans queue to pay for my purchases, in front of me was a woman with one pair of slops for her teenage son. You know the look – a woman that you are ready to help out with payment should she be just that little short at the till.
Just before this woman could move forward to the counter a ‘gentleman’ eased his way in front of her and presented his items for payment. I queried with the woman if I was correct in assuming that she (and I) were in front of this ‘sweaty gentleman with a pork pie hat’ and received an affirmative. So I moved forward and gently pointed out to this ‘gentleman’ that he had pushed in in front of a lady and should proceed to the rear of the queue.
And that is when the ‘entitlement’ kicked in – I could see his slow Darwin Award winning mind slyly calculating his odds against a mere slip of a woman and an elderly male who would be smote with an accusation of racism.
Woe was me for thinking that as this ‘gentleman’ was accompanied by a cute daughter and his wife/accidental sperm receiver that he would wish to demonstrate that he was a kind gentleman with impeccable manners.
An appeal to the Relay Jeans employee behind the counter was met with eyes shifting heavenward.
To my credit I decided not to pursue my gripe with the ‘sweaty pork pie man’ and did the following: Placing my unpaid for purchases on the counter I informed the ‘eyes heavenward’ employee that if he could not control his clients then his business would not receive my custom!
A pity – as I have been known on occasion to favour Relay Jeans, Greenacres, with my filthy dirty cash.
